This became quite a long one, so I figured I'd make a list over the topics I'm going through. Please read them all, it'd mean a lot to me.
Part 1: Introduction, clan wars, and humble members
Part 2: Great things about some of our members
Part 3: Polls to vote
Part 4: Reminder of the real life meeting
Part 5: Hacking is back
Part 6: Stuff going on in ReV
Part 7: What else?
Part 1: Introduction, clan wars, and humble members
It's been almost exactly two months since my last one, and since then we've been so fortunate to have recruited even more players to our ranks. I've been feeling a bit that we're still too spread as a clan. That we should get to know one another a bit more, and to take more initative to get together. To be a team. One thing I'd love to see, is people simply showing up to CWs, whether they're playing or not, just to support your clan mates who're playing. As it is now, we often have to scramble a bit just to have enough players. While as the same time we have players here and there, while the CW is going on and people are fighting for our clan.
I don't like to force people. I think it's best to try to inspire. And what I wish to inspire is a sense of community and responsibility. ReV seeks to build, and in order to build we have to work. And I think most people would find it rewarding to hang out in any given CW's chat channel to hang out, and cheer our players on inbetween their clan war games. And then in return, they'd be there for you when it's your time to play, and their time to hang in the channel. But all this is assuming you even have the time. Some of you have very little time to spend on Starcraft, and it makes sense to spend that time playing instead of idling in a channel. So please make your own considerations as to how far you can stretch responsiblity vs. what you really want for your own.
This segways slightly over to our general situation in our clan. It's seemingly the norm in the community overall that people come and go in and out of inactivity. We're at a different stage of our lives, and as such we need even larger rosters than before to maintain line ups in clan wars. So far we've had people signing up and most people seem keen on doing their part - which I find fantastic. Nevertheless, there's one thing I wish to see the end of;
Stop being so humble!
In STPL, you are not asked to play if there are better options. In BWCL, you are not asked unless the admins see it fit. You are asked because you are wanted or needed to play. What I want to see more of, is a sense of competition. A desire to play in clan wars. To not give a fuck what your own analysis of skill levels are, but rather be happy and proud that you were asked. To see it as a grand opportunity to show off what you have practiced, or to take pride in being given the opportunity to play for your clan. I don't want arrogant cunts, but I don't want timid hamsters either. I want you to bite. To kick. To go in swining, not giving a fuck if you're the best option or not. You were called. Relish that others were not.
Again, I know you wish what's best for the clan, and I truly do appreciate that. But it will not do having people be scared to play. Or to be ashamed if they lose. If we're so afraid of losing, we'd forfeit from all clan leagues to avoid the shame. But that's not what we do. We fight. We endure defeat, looking to the future. Building - not only the community, but each other and our skills. We'll bide our time, and strike in full force when the time is ripe. Greatness is a wine in need of ageing. Now age - time won't help in itself. We'll have to do it on our own.
Part 2: Great things about some of our members
There is already so much great things in ReV that makes me burst with pride! There's so much, but I wish to put some of them into the light;
Caspas[ReV] - This man's values are fantastic. He's donated more than just about anyone else to BSL, STPL and whatever else there may be. He's also dedicated so much time and energy into the game as a leader. Which also includes a lot of work that is done behind the scenes. Work few others see. Not to mention, in our latest CW against vT we had two matches that were rescheduled - both on different days. Caspas showed up to both Szinkler, and Kamifune's games to support the players. Both to make sure everything went okay in terms of organizing, but also to support his fellow clan mates in their matches. That is the sort of man he is. That is the sort of leader you have in your clan.
NarsiL[ReV] - aside from myself, he's the one who has been the longest in the management. He has done a fantastic job not only organizing so many cws I've lost completely count, he's also greatly invested in newer players in both practice and theorycrafting. He's also played by far the most STPL matches. Granted, he hasn't won a single one, but that's the thing I think is so fantastic about him - he knows he's the strongest option. Even if he loses, he doesn't doubt that he was the best chance we had. And he's right - both in his conclusion, and in thinking so! He's taken so much responsibility and done so much for ReV, that quite frankly the next time you see him, make sure you give him an electronic hug.
MadiNho[ReV] - mostly when talking about MadiNho, we end up talking about how madly skilled he is. Which is in its place, but I think it's also easy to understimate simply the fact that he's been showing up to play for so many of our clan wars. He even said yes to bashing me for 4 consecutive hours - something I doubt he gets very much out of in terms of practice and enjoyment, but he did it to help me improve. Gave advice and created some good atmosphere. And I know I'm not the only one he gives advice to. Post your replays on the forum, and you'll surely get some feedback. In addition to all of this - he streams. A lot!
Szinkler[ReV] - similar to MadiNho, Szinkler streams quite a lot. Although at a very different level of play. He's streaming his journey from D to A, and you can really see how methodical and dedicated he is. He constantly writes down things to focus on and how to improve, and then he gets to working on it. His way of going forth fills me with pride and admiration, and I honestly think he has the work ethic and talent to become a truly strong player. Heck, he's already giving me a hard time TvP!
SkRiK[ReV] - our beloved recruiter has a fantastic ability to get in touch with people around him. I ask him to recruit, and suddenly we've got members streaming in. In addition to this, he's organizing the 3v3 tournament between iRk, ReD, and ReV. Truly a builder!
Avi[ReV] - there are so many fantastic things I could say about this man, but one thing I truly love is that even though he's been inactive for quite some time, he's always had a presence in Discord. Despite not playing much, he's always taken part in the clan and its doings. And that's one of the most important things. Helpful, humourus, and recently started appearing in CWs again (although I don't know for certain to which extent and for how long!). A Legacy member who embodies the clan.
Quail[ReV] - although she's silly enough to get an education and have a life, she's also one of those members who's always there. Being inactive is fine, and sometimes you can't be on Discord either. But I simply love it when people find the time to say hi and such! And when she's active, she's always good a getting together to play, or showing up to cast in show matches or somesuch!
ViR[ReV] - a long time member who often shows up for CWs and such, but one thing I want to mention here in particular is his ability to play a whole ton of games! He even got a shoutout in the news post about BSL Ladder Stage for being amongst the top 3 players in terms of games played.
BullDog[ReV] - often works on getting tournaments going, or cozy clan gaming nights, or makes a ton of logos for our logo competition, made the banner for our interview series. I mean, the list goes on - the guy is one hell of a clan member, and I'm so happy we were able to snatch him up!
GruGloG[ReV] - really, really, ridiculously good-looking!
TaardadAiel[ReV] - he's been doing it for a while now, but I feel it should be mentioned that he's writing previews for the ASL games. It's so cool to not only read his work and find myself contiuously impressed with all his insights, but also just the fact that he's a clan member writing those things!
Winawer[ReV] - one of our most reliable players when it comes to clan wars! Very active, always up for games, repares well for his games and is ever so often there when we need him the most. A great clan war'er, if I can call it that!
The list goes on and on. There's so many people I'm filled with pride at showing off to the community. And I'm so happy to have you all here! I want you all to stay and I want you all to remain our friends <3
Part 3: Polls to vote
Other than that, we also have a couple of polls to take care of!
We have to decide what our clan logo should be: clan-rev.freeforums.net/thread/233/choosing-clan-logo
We have to decide what to do with the money we'll receive from the STPL: clan-rev.freeforums.net/thread/232/stpl-prize-money
Please make sure to vote if you have any opinion!
Part 4: Reminder of the real life meeting
I'd also like to remind about our real life clan meeting! You can read more about it here: clan-rev.freeforums.net/thread/204/real-life-clan-gathering-april
It doesn't matter how new you are, you're still welcome to join! So hop on and come meet us!!
Part 5: Hacking is back
Hacking is back
As stated in this thread on TL.net (https://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/543601-maphacks-in-remastered-proof) it seems like maphacks are back. Sadly. I haven't read thoroughly enough to make completely sure that it's the case, but whether or not that it is - after a thread like this we will very surely see an increase in hacking accusations. As such, I'd prefer it if all clan members record their clan war games. I don't need to check them for myself, but assuming there were to be any accusations, we can simply send the recordings and say; "Here, see for yourself. Quit whining noob", only with friendlier words, of course Some people may not have the space on their harddiscs, or even have the tools to do it. In wihch case I think it's fine that you don't record them. Although I may have to ask at least our top level players be extra diligent in recording, as the higher level players often have a gaming sense that may seem like hacking.
If you want to record but don't want to store the recordings on your own computer, feel free to send them to me and I'll make room for them. I'll even buy an extra harddics to have room for it al, if need be. As your leader, I feel that's the least I can do to lessen the burden of the recordings.
Part 6: Stuff going on in ReV
Stuff going on in ReV!
I also figured I'd list up some stuff going on in ReV.
- I'll start with the show match that took place on 6. February. The matches were between ViR[ReV] (Z) and earob[ReV] (P). You can find the VOD from Szinkler's stream here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWFlLJhIFh8
- Clan Revolution also conducts the ReV's Foreginer Interview Series. The first one was with ZZZero, the second one with Qikz. You read them here;
-> ZZZero's: www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/538783-zzzero-interview
-> Qikz': www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/542375-qikz-interview
- SkRiK is organizing the 3v3-tournament. You can read more about it here: clan-rev.freeforums.net/thread/231/starcraft-open-league
- We participate in both BWCL and STPL. Both clan leagues take place on Sundays.
- We have the real life meeting coming up 5.-7. April, and we already have a good bunch ready to travel. But we still have plenty of room for more!
Part 7: What else?
There are two things in particular I want to repeat yet again. If you ever want to organize something, be it within the clan or in the community overall, please feel free to do so! It is very, very welcome for any member to organize events. You are also free to use the ReV name, should you want it and/or feel it'd help!
Secondly, speak your mind! Always tell me what you think and if there's any improvements to made. Or even if you're just having a really shitty day, please feel free to send me a PM. You'll never drag me down. I will simply see it as a golden opprtunity to be there for you, and to get to know you better <3 Or if there's stuff you feel is really poorly organized, feel free to say so!
As always, I love you all and will keep enjoying this ride. Let's rebuild starcraft!
