Beloved clan members!
I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I am to be a father. My wife is due December, and we're quite excited!
The bad news (as least for me) is that I will not be able to continue as a clan leader from that point on. This means that on a date that I have yet to set, I will resign as clan leader of ReV. The date will most likely be in early December and I'll stick to it regardless of whether the child is born yet or not.
However, this will also lead to changes that will happen immediately. I've talked it over with my wife, and starting autumn (around August, I reckon) I'll be putting a lot more time and effort in Starcraft as my final attempt at accomplishments in Starcraft. I will demand more of you as clan members. I will require more activity, and more dedication. I will not have quite as much room for inactivity as before. Some may leave, some will be removed, and some new members will join. We have very many members who are already well within what I'll seek. So the last thing I want is to frighten members I'm already very happy with. But for those who have been inactive for a long time, may have to consider whether they'll be able to keep up when autumn comes, or if it's best to focus elsewhere.
I may add that some members are safe due to socials reasons. For instance, TaardadAiel may not be the most active player (I see him play, but he's a busy man). But he's really good at taking part in Discord, and he's also a writer for the TL.net previews. His efforts to the community alone is more than sufficient to maintain membership in ReV. So there are nuansces. And if I'm not asking you directly or talking to you directly about activity and such, then remember that you are safe.
Part of why I feel it's so important to increase activity (except for Legacy members), is that as I leave I wish for the clan to be self-sufficient. I have great trust that f.ex. NarsiL would be a good candidate to take over as a leader, but that would require him to want to do it. It would also require that there are sufficient admins in the management, who is also consistently active. Leading a clan and being an admin in a clan is a lot of work, and you often have to prioritize the clan over your own gain. If the clan doesn't have a strong enough collective drive, I fear it may not survive. Therefore, I make demands not only because it is what I wish to see in my ideal vision of a clan - it is also for survival.
These changes are not planned to be fully impltemented until around August, but some plans may be set into motion earlier than planned.
Before all of this, I will become much less active for a while. Seeing as my wife will have very little time with me this fall and early winter, I think it's important to prioritize her extra much up until then. As such, during the summer she will be my main priority. I'll still find time for starcraft, still keep in touch. And there will be some days here and there where she's otherwise occupied, at which time I'm likely to make an event or just hang out.
But I may also prioritize doing some chores in the house, for instance, simply to make her happy. Even if she's not there, or if I don't strictly "have to". So expect to see less of me, until there's an explosion come August.
The future of the management.
It is important to note that even though I've discussed this some with the management prior to announcing it here, there are no real plans as to who'll take over and how the management will look when I resign. However, I'll be trying to recruit members who are interested in joining the management. Furthermore, if there's anyone in ReV now who are keen on taking on the role and all it entails, the please send me a text. You don't need a ton of experience and such, as that can be given through practice. And there's no better time to jump into it than now!
If you seek to be an admin, then here's some insight in what you'll expect:
- You'll have to have a lot of Sundays set off for Starcraft (i.e. clan leagues)
- make an extra effort in getting in touch with all clan members
- organize events for the clan
- take part in discussion regarding the current state and the future of the clan, and contribute to planning
- be level headed. As an admin, you are set to a higher standard of conduct than the average member
- accept that even if you're in the management, you may still be overruled by me
- be aware that admin work is quite often more time consuming than you're prepared for (unless you have extensive experience from before)
- you'll also get to understand the clan deeper
- be part of the future and be in a better position to form the clan to your liking
- to serve your clan members and their best interest
It's hard, but it's rewarding. If you're interested, do ask. If not, the please don't. I want players to be players, admins to be admins. I want to remove all obstacles for our players, so they may focus as best as possible on improving.
Long post as always. And I love you all still <3
The future has a lot of treats and troubles for us, but luckily we have one another.
